There are many reasons why memory impairment may occur.

Some people become aware of a decline in their memory whilst those close to them feel there is no problem at all. Conversely some families report deterioration in the memory of a family member to the surprise of the individual concerned.

To decide what the underlying problem is takes time and often requires specialist assessment in a memory clinic.
